“Amahl and the Night Visitors”, a Christmas miracle opera written by Gian-Carlo Menotti, will be performed in Chico on November 30 and December1.   The performances, produced by Children’s Choir of Chico, will feature numerous singers from CCOC Choirs, local churches including Faith Lutheran, Trinity United Methodist, Bethel AME, and Bidwell Presbyterian, as well as numerous singers from the greater Chico area.

Ella Price will be singing the part of Amahl and Alycia Coleman will sing the role of Amahl’s mother.  The three Kings will be Bruce Hagan, William Kees, and Steven Schwartz.  Christine Buckstead joins the solo singers as the Page.  Gwen Curatilo and Susan Tevis are the Artistic Directors for this fully staged and costumed production that will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra..

CCOC choirs Bel Canto (grades 7-12) and Bella Voce (adult women) will open the evening performances with a holiday musical collage that includes works by John Rutter and Eleanor Daley, a Canadian composer.  “Riu, Riu, Chiu”, a Spanish Carol, and a spirited arrangement of “Ding Dong! Merrily On High” will be sure to delight audience members.

The matinee performance will begin with holiday favorites as performed by CCOC’s younger singers in Cantiamo (grades 4-7), Preparatory Choir (grades 2 & 3), and Ready, Set, Sing!  (grades K & 1st).  These bright faces and lively singers will prepare the audience for the grand season ahead.
