Children’s Choir of Chico opens its 19th concert season with a musical collage
showcasing its choirs performing songs that celebrate the “Songs of the People”!
This afternoon concert will feature performances of songs straight from the hearts
of people from varied cultures, traditions, and languages. Concert attendees will
experience a Malaysian “kite song”, a rousing spiritual arranged by Rollo Dilworth,
and a Cajun tongue-twister accompanied by xylophone. Selections composed by
Ken Berg, Susan Brumfield, Franz Schubert, Claudio Casciolini, Felix Mendelssohn
and Bob Chilcott will bring a depth of artistic performances to concert attendees.
Of special note will be several choral compositions by Leonard Bernstein as CCOC
joins the worldwide celebration of his 100th birthday. Bernstein is highly
recognized as a composer, conductor, educator, musician, cultural ambassador, and
CCOC will feature several special guest performers, including David Vallelunga
(tenor), Michael Taylor (xylophone), and Cindy Crounse (bassoon).
Come prepared to enjoy a pleasing blend of voices from the youngest singers in the
training choirs - “Ready, Set, Sing!” (K & 1st grade) and the “Preparatory Choir” (2nd
& 3rd grades), to the more developed voices and advanced repertoire of the touring
choirs - “Cantiamo” and “Bel Canto”, and the CCOC women’s choir “Bella Voce”.
Singers include residents of Chico, Durham, Paradise, Oroville, Forest Ranch, Orland,
Berry Creek, and Bangor.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $7 for children 5-12 years as well as senior citizens.
Tickets are available at the door or from any Children’s Choir of Chico singer.
