Susan
Tevis, Founder, Artistic Director and Conductor of the five choirs
of the Children’s Choir of Chico holds B.A. and M.A. degrees
in piano pedagogy and music education from California State University,
Chico. She completed a Kodály Certificate at the Kodály
Institute at McNeese State University (Lake Charles, Louisiana) and
completed advanced studies both at the McNeese Institute and at the
Kodály Pedagogical Institute in Kecskemét, Hungary. Ms.
Tevis has been an adjunct faculty member at McNeese State University,
CSU Chico, Capital University Conservatory of Music (Columbus, Ohio),
and the Kodály Pedagogical Institute in Kecskemét, Hungary. |
She presently
teaches at the Kodály
Institute at McNeese and the Kodály Institute at Capital University.
As a choral specialist, Susan is active as a guest clinician and conductor
for treble choirs, and is frequently invited to present music education
workshops for various state and national music organizations and at regional,
state & national music conferences. |

In addition to
clinics and workshops, she also presented a scholarly paper, in conjunction
with two colleagues, at the 1999 Symposium of the International Kodály Society. The
Classroom Music Project, founded by Ms. Tevis at Citrus Elementary School
in Chico, provides a field studies opportunity for music education majors
at CSU, Chico. Founded in 2001, Children’s Choir of Chico has served
over 300 children and young people in the greater Chico area, performing
for numerous organizations and community events each year. |

Cantiamo and Bel
Canto have traveled to central and southern California, performed in
Disneyland, delighted audiences in Petaluma, Santa Rosa and San Francisco,
and Chorale members have sung on the historic stage at Carnegie Hall! Plans
are now underway for an exciting concert tour for 2008! |

Soprano
Dara Kirchofner Scholz is a 1998 graduate of St. Olaf College, where
she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and was an active member
of the St. Olaf Choir, Chapel Choir and the Early Music Singers. She
received a Master of Music in Vocal Performance in 2006 from the University
of Minnesota, where she studied with Lawrence Weller and was a member
of the University of Minnesota Chamber Singers and the Early Music Ensemble.
In addition to her studies at the University of Minnesota, Ms. Scholz
from 1999-2006 was a member of the VocalEssence Ensemble Singers, a 32-voice
professional choral ensemble based in Minneapolis, MN. |
Solo
appearances by Ms. Scholz include major works such as Handel’s Messiah,
Mozart’s Requiem and Solemn
Vespers de Confessore,
Haydn’s Nicholaimesse, Charpentier’s Te
Deum, Bach’s
cantata Christ lag in Todes Banden, and
Faure’s Requiem.
In March 2008 she will be performing J.S. Bach’s Cantata
#211 Schweigt
stille, plaudert nicht (Be
still, stop chattering) better known as the Coffee Cantata,
and Felix Mendelssohn’s chorale cantata Wer
nur den lieben Gott läßt
walten (Whoever
lets only the dear God reign) as part of CSU, Chico’s annual
Bach Festival. On April 2, 2008, she will be featured as soloist
with the CSU, Chico University Chorus in their performance of John
Rutter’s Magnificat. |

As
a vocal instructor, Ms. Scholz is recognized for her work with high
school and collegiate singers, having over 10 years of experience teaching
singers of all ages and abilities. In Chico, she maintains a private
vocal studio and is active as a musical theater director and accompanist.
She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing,
the American Choral Directors Association, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Beta
Kappa, and Pi Kappa Lambda. |
