Because we have an active concert season it is essential that we use every minute wisely.  Please plan for Choir Members to:

    1. BE ON TIME for rehearsals. “On time” means arriving 10 minutes before the rehearsal begins. Promptness is essential to teamwork. We can only work together when we’re all here!
    2. SIGN-IN and be in your seat 5 minutes before rehearsal begins (Cantiamo and Bel Canto)
    3. BRING all music to each rehearsal. Students are responsible for the music in their folder.  Choir members will pay for any music that is lost or damaged.
    4. HAVE a snack before you arrive for rehearsal.
    5. USE restrooms and get drinks of water before rehearsal, as there is not sufficient time for all Choir Members to use restrooms during the rehearsal.
    6. Chewing gum, eating and drinking are not allowed in the rehearsal room. A closed container of water is permitted.

Attendance

Our goals for the year include self-improvement as musicians and public performances in which we can share our musical progress. To share beautiful music is a privilege, an honor and a responsibility. A look at our calendar shows that we will have many opportunities to perform.  Choir members are expected to actively participate in rehearsals, as a significant amount of material is covered at each rehearsal. Concerts are the outcome of our rehearsals and the culmination of our musical gift to our audiences. Because we are a TEAM, important musical factors such as balance and blend are affected by the absence of even a single performer! When you join a musical group, members accept the responsibility to be at rehearsals and as many concerts as possible.

Keeping in mind that COMMUNICATION between parents, teacher, and student is a prerequisite to success in music, please do the following:

  1. Together, look carefully over the calendar now.  Note the dates of concerts, special rehearsals, and events.
  2. Write appropriate dates on your family calendar now!  Keep the full calendar handy as a reference.  Use the Response Form attached to the Concert Choir and Chorale Calendar to indicate your child’s attendance at extra rehearsals and/or performances.
  3. In case of illness preventing attendance at a rehearsal, please call or e-mail the Children’s Choir of Chico Office before the rehearsal. Students missing more than 2 rehearsals in a concert cycle may be asked to demonstrate knowledge and musical memory for the Director. Students with colds and sore throats are asked to attend the rehearsal (unless they are absent from school or are contagious) and will sit in the audience, participating passively in the rehearsal.

We all appreciate your efforts to schedule dental, orthodontic, medical (etc.) appointments at other times.  Our rehearsals seem so short and full; therefore, choir members will want to miss only those days when they are absent from school.

To contact the Children’s Choir of Chico with an absence please phone or e-mail:

Rehearsal Procedures

Ready, Set, Sing! Kindergarten & First Grade

Preparatory Choir

During rehearsals, the drop-off and pick-up location will be in front of the First Christian entrance to the Chapel. Please walk into the courtyard to drop-off and pick-up your child. CCOC staff will meet and supervise them before and after rehearsals. Parents are welcome to wait in the courtyard or leave during rehearsals.

Important Notice for Ready, Set, Sing! Parents

It is important that you pick-up your child promptly at 4:15 p.m. as there is no instructor to supervise your child between rehearsals. If you are running late, your child can be found in the instruction room with Mrs. Tevis.

Cantiamo & Bel Canto

During Monday rehearsals, the drop-off and pick-up location will be in front of the First Christian entrance to the Chapel for both Cantiamo and Bel Canto. Please drive in and drop your children off at the curb. There will be a Children’s Choir staff member to meet and supervise the choristers during the drop-off and pick-up times:

Monday Cantiamo Rehearsals

Supervised Drop-Off – 3:15-3:30 p.m. – First Christian front parking lot

Supervised Pick-Up – 4:45-5:00 p.m. - First Christian front parking lot

Monday Bel Canto Rehearsals

Supervised Drop-Off – 4:45-5:00 p.m. - First Christian front parking lot

Supervised Pick-Up – 6:15-6:30 p.m. - First Christian front parking lot

Wednesday Bel Canto Rehearsals

Supervised Drop-off - 4:35-4:45 p.m. - Sheridan Ave., end of driveway

Supervised Pick-up - 6:00-6:15 p.m. - Sheridan Ave., end of driveway

This avoids traffic jams and is safer for the choir members.

All Choirs

For safety reasons, choristers are not permitted to leave the rehearsal building until a parent or other authorized adult has come for them.

Rehearsals are closed, as it is more comfortable for the Choir to rehearse without an audience.

We will invite you to come and visit a rehearsal as we get closer to a performance!
